A double standard on academic freedom in the Middle East
Two hundred thousand Palestinian children began school in the Gaza Strip this month without a full complement of textbooks. Why? Because Israel, which maintains a stranglehold over this small strip of land along the Mediterranean even after withdrawing its settlers from there in 2005, considers paper, ink and binding materials not to be "fundamental humanitarian needs."

The Sabra and Shatila Massacre (16-18 September 1982)
For 40 hours in September 1982, members of the Israeli-allied Lebanese Phalangist militia raped, killed, and injured a large number of unarmed civilians, mostly children, women and elderly people inside the encircled and sealed Sabra and Shatila camps. The estimate of victims varies between 700 (the official Israeli figure) to 3,500.

Israel’s cost to the Arabs - By Ghada Karmi
After nearly 60 years, Israel is still not at peace with most of its neighbours. The Saudi peace plan, first proposed in 2002, is the latest in a series of Arab overtures aiming to end this situation. It offers Israel full normalisation of relations in return for withdrawal from the territories it conquered in 1967, and a negotiated agreement on the right of return for Palestinian refugees.

Israeli forces invade northern Gaza – four kidnapped
Israeli military forces launched an invasion of the Beit Hanoun and Jabalia areas of northern Gaza in the early hours of Saturday morning, razing large tracts of Palestinian land and carrying out a series of abductions.
