OCCUPIED JERUSALEM, (PIC)- The Israeli Haaretz newspaper reported that the US and Israel have almost agreed on the deployment of early-warning missile radars in the Negev desert in order to confront any possible Iranian missile attack.

The radars, known as X-Band, will be linked to a US satellite-based alert network and will be manned by US troops.

According the newspaper, the system's deployment will be starting in early 2009 and may be done earlier this autumn, in order to integrate it with the Arrow missile defense system.

The Hebrew radio said Monday that the Iranian announcement of launching a homemade satellite into orbit and developing a military jet which can fly as far as Israel and back without refueling sparked Israeli officials' fears.

For their part, US officials expressed concerns that this Iranian technology could be used in ballistic missiles, adding it raises questions about Iran's intentions.

Iran's official news agency IRNA quoted ministry of defense and armed forces sources as saying that in presence of president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Iran's `Safir' (ambassador) satellite-carrier rocket, carrying Iran's first Omid (Hope) Satellite, was successfully launched into the space tentatively on Sunday.
