Canaan was detained by the Israeli army a week ago while he was working in his land near the construction site of the illegal wall Israel is building on the villagers lands.

He has been accused of assulating an Israeli soldier, however, local activists in Bili'n believe that he was kidnapped by the army because his 14 year-old daughter, Salam, managed to document with her cell-phone camera Israeli soldiers shooting Ashraf Abu Rahma, 27, while handcuffed and blindfolded in the village of Ni'lin near Ramallah.

Salam's tape, which was released on Sunday July, 20 by the Israeli human rights group B'Tselem, forced the Israeli army to launch an investigation into the shooting which was carried out by a Staff Sergeant and a Lieutenant Colonel.

Other sources believe that the detention of Jamal Canaan is not related to his daughters film, and say it is a coincidence.

Ahraf Abu Rahma has been lately known as Guevara Bil’in, for his frequent participation in the nonviolent demonstrations in Bi’in and the nearby Ni’lin. Recently, Abu Rahma has managed to obstruct an Israeli crane from placing a settlers mobile home in Bil’in for five hours by climbing the cranes arm carrying a Palestinian flag.
