The issue of settlement products has been highlighted in the UK media throughout the last year after boxes bound for Tesco stores in Britain were photographed inside a West Bank settlement, illustrating the fact that UK supermarkets were routinely stocking goods from the settlements.
These products were labeled 'made in Israel' despite the fact that this practice is illegal according to regulations imposed by the EU intended to prevent products from West Bank settlements benefiting from tax breaks under the EU-Israel Association Agreement.
The British governments says that its policy on the settlements is clear, declaring that the 'Settlements are illegal'. This campaign has been launched as a reaction to the announcement last week that the Israeli government has approved the expansion of a settlement in the north of the Jordan Valley.
In a press statement PSC said, "such a ban would be an effective way of demonstrating the British government's sincerity in its opposition to illegal Israeli settlements."
